Student Elections: Cast Your Vote!

I stand before you today to announce my candidacy for a position on the Board of governors. It is with great pride, purpose and deep sense of responsibility that I seek this opportunity to serve our institution. I believe in the power of collective effort, shared vision and transparent governance and I am committed to advancing the interest of our organization with integrity, dedication and vision. 

My candidacy is driven by strong desire to foster an environment where every voice is heard, where innovative ideas are welcomed and where shared goals are pursued with unwavering determination. 

If elected, I will work tirelessly to ensure that our policies are aligned with the best interests of all stakeholders. I will advocate for increased transparency, fiscal responsibility and strategic decision-making that reflects our community values and long term aspiration. Moreover, I will prioritize initiative that promote academic excellence, student well-being and community engagement. 

Together, we can shape a brighter future. I humbly ask for your support and trust in this election. United in purpose we can make a difference for our institution, today and in the years to come.

The concern is to get rid off the problems faced by the students due to lack of housing and transportation. My aim is to bring light on the neglected issues which are immense part of every student's life. I ensure that with the help of college authorities and my co-leaders, the problems can be figured out and I will make every possible effort to bring the solutions into actions.

I am a team player and hold an experience of working with people of all age groups. I have worked in the professional environment and have a refined conscious and have the ability to take decisions which contribute significantly to the growth of both the students and the college. Leadership and Governance is a very wide and international setup and needs to be handled very diligently.

We at Selkirk already have a lot of programs/activities which gives a lot of scope and entitlement to the students but what we need to stress and inculcate more is participation, as per my personal experience I initially was not much involved and neither did I focused on various programs happening in the college  but now I noticed that the college has so much to offer if I am ready for it. I believe I want to become an example for the students that if we focus and have the aim we could be a part of such a prestigious board in the college itself and polish our leadership skills.

Taking the suggestions from students and discussing it with them supports their wellness. We could also hold meetings across different colleges so as to level up in the community.

Introducing more podcast culture whenever possible, wherein the students across the college could apply and can participate to get real life experiences of what goes into a setup and how can they come forward and work out of their comfort zones, this will help built equality. I have organized such events in the past and have seen significant growth in the confidence of students, if given a chance it would be an honor to be a part of it and elaborate more such ideas.
 

 As a dedicated student leader with a deep commitment to fostering positive change at Selkirk College, I am excited to run for a position on the Board of Governors. Throughout my time as a Student Ambassador and Treasurer of the Students' Union, I have gained valuable insights into the needs and concerns of our student body. My goal as a member of the Board is to advocate for the student experience, ensuring that policies and decisions reflect the best interests of students while supporting the overall mission of the college. I am passionate about sustainability, equity, and fostering a vibrant learning environment, and I am confident that my background in community involvement and leadership will allow me to effectively represent the student voice on the Board.

I would like to express my enthusiastic interest in representing Selkirk College students on the Board of Governors this year. Last year, I had the privilege of engaging as a member of the Education Council, which provided me with invaluable experience and insight into college governance. In this role, I was able to offer the student perspective on important agenda items affecting a wide cross-section of learners. New programs were approved in the health and human services department relating to mental health and addictions, while programs such as biology saw flexible and robust improvements to course sequence requirements, among many other changes. 

I grew up in Nelson and have been involved in many not-for-profit community organizations both professionally and as a volunteer, including the Nelson Civic Theatre Society, the Nelson Museum, Archives and Gallery, the Kootenay Co-op, Cycling Without Age, the Mustard Seed Street Church in Victoria, and soon the local chapter of NavCare. I completed my BA (Hons.) in Political Science at UVic with an especial interest in the politics of different popular ideas about education. Here at Selkirk, I am transitioning into my second year in the Rural Pre-Medicine Program. 

Hello everyone! My name is Abina, and I am a Rural Pre-Medicine student with a deep passion for student advocacy. If elected to the Selkirk College Board of Directors, I will work tirelessly to ensure that every student feels welcomed, heard, and valued on our campus. I am committed to bridging the gap between students and the council, fostering an environment of inclusivity and equal representation. 

I believe that when students feel a sense of belonging, they thrive academically and personally. That is why my focus will be on cultivating a community where all voices are respected, and diverse perspectives are embraced. I will always be available to listen to your concerns and will make it my priority to advocate for the issues that matter most to you. 

Through student governance, we could bring about lasting, meaningful change. Whether it is improving campus resources, enhancing student support, or ensuring transparent communication, I am dedicated to being a strong, effective voice for all students.
