External Awards

Scholarships and bursaries are available from organizations outside of Selkirk College. These awards will each have their own eligibility requirements and application process. You may be eligible for an external award from:

  • Your parents’ association with an employer, union, or club
  • Organizations that are looking to assist students studying in a specific field

Selkirk College encourages students to seek external awards to further fund their studies.

Student Responsibilities

Before the tuition payment deadline, make sure to contact the external award donor and provide them with your student information so your award can be sent to the Financial Aid Office. If any information is missing or incorrect, this may cause a delay in the processing of your award.

It is crucial to be familiar with the terms and conditions of the external agency to keep the award funding. If you withdraw from Selkirk College or fail to meet the external agency's requirements at any time during the academic year, you must get in touch with the external agency to arrange for possible repayment. It's important to note that Selkirk College will not intervene between you and the external agency.

Additional requirements from the external organization

Some external organizations may require a Confirmation of Enrolment letter and the cost of your tuition before funding is sent to Selkirk College. You can request a Confirmation of Enrolment letter by emailing your Enrolment Officer.

Courses tuition and fees can fluctuate based on your course enrolment. Students are required to attach their registration from their student accounts to provide exact tuition and fees. Review full program costs

A course registration statement for the current semester can be downloaded from your student record.

If you've won an external award

Cheques can be made payable to Selkirk College and sent to the Financial Aid Office for processing. Funds will be assigned to your student account once Financial Aid confirms that you are registered and are in good standing.

Award monies are scheduled to be paid to a student’s tuition account at the beginning of the academic session. It takes approximately four to six weeks for the award amount to show in your account from the date Financial Aid receives the fund. During busy times, such as the start of the term, the processing time may be longer.

After the cheque is processed, you will receive an email notification that the funds have been applied to your account.

To ensure Financial Aid has the proper information to deposit the cheque, you must provide the external organization with the following information:

  • Full name
  • Student number

This information should be written on the face of the cheque in the memo or comments area. Cheques that do not include this information will not be processed.

Submitting Your Cheque

If you're studying at Selkirk College, you can drop off your cheque in person at the Enrolment Services Office in Castlegar or Nelson during regular business hours or mail it to the following address:

Selkirk College

T4A tax documents

External award agencies who wish to issue their own T4A tax form should notify the Financial Aid Office.

If the documentation attached to the funding received by Selkirk College does not specify who will issue the T4A tax form to the student, Selkirk College will issue the student a T4A by default in late February.

Questions?

Please contact the external agency first for questions about incoming funding to Selkirk College.

If the funds have been sent, contact Financial Aid for an update on distribution.

Information for External Organizations

Cheques received without clear instructions and student-identifying information will not be processed and will be returned to the sender.

Upon submission of award funding to be processed by Selkirk College to the external award winner, the external organization agrees to follow Selkirk College policies. Unfortunately, Selkirk College will not be able to administer the external award if it conflicts with Selkirk College policy.

Please note that student information will only be released with the consent of the student through completed and submitted Authorization of Release of Student Information and Sponsorship Authorization forms.
