Can I change my course load?
To receive your bursary, you must be enrolled in a post-secondary semester program or a post-secondary trades foundation or apprenticeship program and maintain a minimum 60% course load.
If you have a documented disability, you must maintain a minimum 40% course load and be registered with Accessibility Services.
If you have questions, contact Financial Aid.
When can I apply for a Selkirk College bursary?
Bursary applications open September 15 and close October 31.
What is the difference between a bursary and a scholarship?
Bursaries are based on financial need and students must provide financial information when making an application. Scholarships are based on grades.
I received a bursary offer, what happens next?
Once a student receives a bursary offer, they will need to follow the link in the offer email to formally accept or decline their award. Prior to accepting your award, please review the eligibility requirements.
Upon accepting your award(s), you will be asked to complete a post-acceptance form. This includes writing a brief biography and thank you letter to the scholarship donor. Donors believe that both they and you are making a difference in the world. They are interested in hearing about you—your academic plans, activities and career goals—as well as what this scholarship means to you.
After the acceptance deadline as stated in the offer email, if you accepted the award, you will receive an invitation to the Bursary Tea and Reception event hosted the first Saturday of February. Students are strongly encouraged, but not required, to attend the event.
How will I receive my bursary?
Financial Aid will confirm that students have met the eligibility requirements for their awards in the final week of January. Students that have maintained their eligibility will receive their bursary cheque at the Bursary Tea. If you are unable to attend the tea, a cheque will be mailed to your address on file in the days following the event.
It is expected that all tuition and fees are paid in full (or deferred if you are a student loan recipient) by the first day of classes. Any unpaid tuition and fees will be automatically deducted from your bursary in the last week of January. If there is a credit available after the bursary has been applied to the outstanding balance, a cheque will be issued for the balance.
