From Taya Whitehead, Vice-President, Education & Students
Dear Students and the College Community,
As you may have heard, recent changes to federal immigration policy have caused a major shift in the Canadian post-secondary sector by restricting the number of international students colleges can recruit.
While all post-secondary institutions in Canada are feeling the impacts of these changes, including Selkirk College, the effects on current students are relatively minimal. All students enrolled in classes and programs will be supported through to graduation, and all our schools and campuses are fully operational. If you have any questions about your specific pathway, please connect with your school or program.
International students who applied for a study permit before November 1, 2024, are not impacted by the IRCC’s changes to post-graduation work permit (PGWP) eligibility. Current international students remain eligible to apply for a PGWP but must meet the new federal language requirements.
For information about changes to PGWP eligibility, please visit our frequently asked questions. The international team will continue to host periodic webinars to share information and answer questions. If you are an international student with specific questions about the PGWP, please make an appointment with our regulated international student immigration advisor (RISIA), Elizabeth Li.
As Selkirk College navigates this changing landscape, our commitment to providing domestic and international students with high-quality, accessible programming supported by robust services remains steadfast.
Taya Whitehead
