Packing more than 25 years of traditional media experience, Bob arrived to the position of Communications Coordinator & Community Liaison in 2013 where he has helped tell the inspiring story of post-secondary education at Selkirk College.
Raised in Calgary, Bob began his own post-secondary journey in 1985 at the University of Calgary before switching to the School of Broadcasting at Mount Royal College. After working for two years in television media in both large urban centres and rural Alberta communities, he returned to school to complete his Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Native Studies at the University of Alberta.
Once Bob arrived in the Kootenays, his first stop was the Nelson Daily News where he was the City Hall reporter and eventually newspaper's managing editor. When the Nelson Daily News shut its doors after more than 100 years serving the community, Bob moved down the block to the Nelson Star where he helped grow the twice-weekly paper into an award-winning product.
As a member of the Selkirk College Marketing & Communications Department, Bob helps tell the ongoing story of Selkirk College through words and photography. In 2017, he was part of the Journeys Taken: Selkirk College - The First 50 Years commemorative coffee table book project the chronicled five decades of post-secondary in the West Kootenay and Boundary.
Bob's volunteer community work is extensive. Over the years he has served on the boards of the Nelson & District Chamber of Commerce, Nelson & District Baseball Association, Granite Pointe Golf Course, Nelson Area Rails to Trails Society, Lakeside Park Playground committee, Nelson Regional Sports Council and the Nelson Minor Hockey Association board. He was one of the members of the Hockey Day in Canada organizing committee that brought Canada-wide attention to the Kootenays in 2007.
When not on the job, Bob relishes the opportunity to spend time with his wife Janice and their two adult children (his daughter is an alumna of Selkirk College). His after-work activities include golf, alpine skiing, Nordic skiing and travel.
