Brian Lye is an internationally celebrated filmmaker, artist, and educator. His research interests are based in early cinema, play and human relationships with the natural world.

His films have screened at festivals, galleries, and television networks such as the Sundance Film Festival, Melbourne Film Festival, Canal+, SBS Television Australia, Images Festival Toronto, Vancouver International Film Festival, the Museum of Sydney, and the Centre of Contemporary Culture Barcelona.

He holds an MFA in Visual Art from the University of British Columbia, a BA in Film Studies and Japanese Studies from the University of Victoria, a Diploma of Screen from Sydney Film School, and he was a guest student at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.
Originally from Vancouver, he now lives in Nelson with his family. In his free time, he loves skateboarding and spending time in nature.

At Selkirk College, he teaches in the Digital Arts Program and the English Language Program.
