BA (SFU), BEd (UBC), MC (U of C)
Throughout the years that I have devoted myself to a career in education and human services and my goal has always been to be in a position to have a positive impact on people striving to improve their lives. With this personal goal in mind, having the opportunity to work with bright, inquisitive, and appreciative students as well as highly capable and inspiring colleagues is truly as good as it gets.
My initial fore into the helping professions was as a volunteer in a provincial mental health facility when I was 18. I very much enjoyed the experience and, by all accounts my contributions were well received. Due to the unrelenting lure of the paycheck, I spent the next few years at various jobs including being a welder with CP Rail.
When I finally figured out that it was possible to make a living doing something enjoyable and personally meaningful I started part time course work in at Douglas College. From there I went on to finish my BA in psychology at SFU. This allowed me the opportunity to take on a number of highly satisfying roles in both the mental health and education sectors. Upon realizing how much I enjoyed working with young people in the school system, I returned to my own studies and got my Bachelor of Education and my teaching certificate. This led to my employment at Selkirk College where I am privileged to be able to continue my love of helping others. Since then I have gone on to get my Master’s in Counselling – again, toward the ultimate goal of providing the most complete and comprehensive service to my students.
My spare time is spent with my family on the ski hill or camping, and when I can get away, I love touring on my motorcycle.
