The board must set policies for its own internal workings: how meetings will be conducted, what topics will be addressed, the role of officers and committees, how the board will discipline itself. An effective design of board policies ensures that the board fulfills three primary responsibilities:
-
Maintaining links to the public, including advocacy, community relationship building and fund raising on behalf of the college.
-
Formulating Selkirk College’s policies: mission, vision, values and outcomes, board-staff relationships, executive limitations and board process.
-
Assuring organizational performance.
By setting clear board process policies, the board develops a consistent approach for operating, remaining focused on providing vision and leadership. To obtain the full document of any policy, please contact Catherine Harder.
